Exhibition opens 28 January from 5pm Closes 21 February 2009 Celebrated Venda artist, Noria Mabasa, exhibits new works in clay and wood at Bell-Roberts Gallery. The themes of these works are conceptually rooted in Venda mythology and clay works combine female forms and faces with traditional pot forms. She started working in clay in 1974 and, motivated by a dream, two years later became the first Venda woman to work in wood. She has exhibited both locally and abroad. In 2003, Mabasa was awarded the prestigious national award of "Silver Level of the Order of the Baobab" for her "exceptional achievements in unique forms of fine arts under trying circumstances".
